| Designed
with a European sensibility, XS is furnished in warm
browns and gold. Tables with plush couches form
concentric circles around a small dance floor, and a
disco ball-inspired chandelier casts circles of
flickering light onto the dark floor. Textures are
everywhere – metallic snakeskin on the banquettes,
ultra suede on the couches – and large pillars covered
in mosaics of tiny mirrors reflect the space. |

| Vast,
packed and an intense sensory overload, LAX guarantees
the quintessential Vegas nightclub experience (even
though it’s named after the Los Angeles airport). Full
of swank design details and an uber chic crowd, this
Strip nightclub is everything we’ve come to expect
from Pure Management properties. Located inside the
Luxor, LAX has a sister property in Hollywood, and both
places are favorites of the stars. Celebrities often
host the party, and the guest list is a veritable
who’s who of tabloid darlings: Paris and Nicky Hilton,
Wilmer Valderrama, Brody Jenner, Dave Navarro, Kristin
Cavallari, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Britney
Spears…the list goes on. Celebrities in their own
right, DJ AM and DJ Vice keep the revelers entertained,
as do regular contests like the recent Miss LAX bikini
pageant. |

| The
Fantasy Tower at the Palms got its name for a good
reason. Moon nightclub, high atop the 53rd floor,
transports visitors into a fanciful space-age themed
club with Jetsons-like décor and shiny silver-uniformed
cocktail waitresses. The color-changing glass tile
floor, lasers and space imagery give the club a
futuristic vibe. Moon brings the outdoors inside on warm
nights when the roof retracts to offer a clear view of
the desert sky and (duh!) the moon. When the roof is
closed, the ceiling serves as a massive screen,
projecting images of exciting scenes from the club
below. |

| You
may feel a little overwhelmed by the 60,000 square foot
Tao complex that includes a massive nightclub, a
restaurant, an ultra lounge and a rooftop beach club.
You may feel intimidated by the line outside, which is
the physical proof that if Tao were a high school
student it would win Most Popular, Prom Queen and Most
Likely to Marry Jake Gyllenhaal. |

| The
Cointreauversial attitude arose 160
years ago with the creation of the
famous liqueur, Cointreau. This unique
and outstanding liqueur made from
oranges, the star of cocktails such as
the mythical Margarita and the very
sophisticated and cool Cosmopolitan,
went on to achieve popularity in more
than 200 countries. |

New Vodka Flavors: Great Ideas or
Ridiculous?
The
vodka industry never ceases to amaze
me. Just when I thought every flavor
had been conceived of, and produced,
along comes a new bottle chasing an
even narrower niche. I have sampled
vodkas that seem to draw their
inspiration from every supermarket
aisle (see a sample list after the
jump). Some are naturally infused,
some artificially flavored. Now
there are three new flavors vying
for your taste buds: Three
Olives Tomato, Root Beer and Triple
Shot Espresso vodkas.
|
The
concepts are straight-forward: The
tomato version will make a decent
Bloody Mary, the espresso has
caffeine (to compete with Red Bull),
and the root beer can be consumed
"car bomb" style (as a
shot dropped into a half-pint of
ale). I will try all three soon. But
first, I'm curious, what's your
reaction: Gotta try it or gimme a
break?
Cury-Tasted

peach, blueberry, kiwi, cherry,
banana, raspberry
Herbs:
dill, rosemary, cilantro, mint
Spices:
ginger, pepper, cinnamon
Sweets:
chocolate, vanilla, honey
Mixed
with other drinks: green
tea, sake, shiso
